InscribedPrinted captions on paper, attached to mount verso, in black type: "Wandering Needlewomen. / THESE peripatetic tailors or needlewo- / en are extremely useful members of / society. / ¶ THE husband who may have been / obliged to put on his garments without / the stray button, owing to his wife's / forgetfulness, or the coolie who may / have accidentally torn his raiment, or / any one needing "the stitch in time" / which is to save the proverbial "nine," / may avail himself of the services of / these female street menders, who are / always provided with thread, buttons, / and other houswifes [sic.] necessaries. / ¶ Their presence may be recognised by / a peculiar call or cry."
