InscribedPrinted captions on paper, attached to mount verso, in black type: "Pedler [sic.]. / The multiplicity of articles of every / conceivable description offered for sale / by these vendors of "notions", as they / are happily termed in America, is ex- / traordinary. They generally take up a / position in some well frequented tho- / roughfare, and although their stock in / trade does not extend quite so far as / from a "pin to an anchor" it embraces / most of the little wants of the stream of / life which flows past them--that their / business however is not a very remu- / nerative or lucrative one, may perhaps / be inferred from the fact that they are / as a rule not very well conditioned look- / ing either in person or habiliments."
