A good specimen of the type / of Chinese Countenance--The hat a sort / of "Jim Crow" is peculiar to the Shang- / hai district, and is seldom seen elsewhere; / the shade of the faces is a light bronze, / with a rich healthy color in winter, A / picture of this sort gives a better idea of / the people than pages of descriptive writ- / ing."
