In this multilayered self-portrait, Francesca Woodman squats beside a chair, fully dressed, pressing her camera’s shutter release bulb to make the exposure. Another figure reclines behind her, naked, peering through glass. The two women appear isolated from one another and, at the same time, connected through their visual juxtaposition in the photograph. Woodman transforms what appears to be an art school studio space into a psychologically charged exploration of isolation, vulnerability, and a frustrated desire for physical connection.
