DescriptionImage of a nude girl crouched with her back against a stone wall; around the corner is an Easter lily.Gallery LabelFeelings of isolation, desire, and vulnerability course through Francesca Woodman’s imagery, as suggested here. Many of her photographs are self-portraits that focus on the way her body interacts with the spaces around her. Often these spaces are erotically charged.
In 1977, while a student at the Rhode Island School of Design, Woodman travelled to Rome as part of the school’s overseas honors program. This period proved highly productive for the young artist.
