Jan Lutma (ca. 1584?1669) was a famous gold and silversmith in the Golden Age of Dutch silversmith manufacture and a personal friend of Rembrandt. The sitter holds one of his works and sits in a dignified state, suggesting venerable age and experience. His pose in the chair is set off by the bright light from the window in the background.
