DescriptionWhite earthenware vase with tall, slender neck, sloping shoulders and reverse tapering body to a narrow foot. The body, shoulder and neck decorated with green, red and yellow geometric ornament.Gallery LabelThis simple vase’s design belies its rebellious past. The geometric decoration draws from ancient Finno-Ugric patterns, recalling Finnish folk embroidery and woven textiles. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, Finland celebrated its history and culture in defiance of Russian occupation. Arabia Porcelain Factory’s important Fennia series used nationalistic motifs to promote Finnish industries and patriotic sentiments.
