DescriptionImages of semi-nude man jumping; shown in 2 rows each with 12 panels numbered 1-12.Exhibition HistoryRotation 25. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO, October 19, 2018- March 17, 2019, no cat.
Using exposures as rapid as 1/2000th of a second, Eadweard Muybridge recorded human and animal movement at the University of Pennsylvania from 1884 to 1886. His technique involved the use of two sets of 12 cameras to produce views from both the front and the side. He photographed a vast range of subjects, from men jumping to the gaits of dogs, horses, and elephants. In 1887, these views were published in a 781-plate collection titled Animal Locomotion.
