DescriptionImages of 2 semi-nude males fencing; shown in 3 rows each with 4 panels numbered 1-12.Gallery LabelUsing exposures as rapid as 1/2000th of a second, Eadweard Muybridge recorded human and animal movement at the University of Pennsylvania from 1884 to 1886. His technique involved the use of two sets of 12 cameras to produce views from both the front and the side. He photographed a vast range of subjects, from men fencing to the gaits of dogs, horses and elephants. In 1887, these views were published in a 781-plate collection titled Animal Locomotion.
