DescriptionImage of a cathedral facade with scaffolding. Top of cathedeal is outside of frame.Gallery LabelColonel Alfred Capel-Cure was among the first gentlemen-amateurs to practice photography in England. He specialized in architectural views, with an interest in medieval structures such as this one, and travelled throughout England, Wales, Scotland, and France. In this photograph of Hereford Cathedral, located in southwest England, Capel-Cure adeptly renders the delicate play of light and shadow as it illuminates the form and structure of the cathedral’s stone exterior.
