For 50 years, Barbara Crane has explored the vast formal possibilities of photography. This image is from her series People of the North Portal. For this project, Crane stood at a set distance outside the doors of Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry and photographed visitors as they exited the building. The resulting image explores the changing rhythms of an everyday activity as set against a consistent backdrop.
