DescriptionImage of man, woman and young girl walking through a pair of partially open doors. The girl is wearing a dress and holding hands with the adults.Exhibition HistoryRotation 25. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO, October 19, 2018- March 17, 2019, no cat.
For 50 years, Barbara Crane has explored the vast formal possibilities of photography. This image is from her series People of the North Portal. For this project, Crane stood at a set distance outside the doors of Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry and photographed visitors as they exited the building. The resulting image explores the changing rhythms of an everyday activity as set against a consistent backdrop.
