DescriptionPair of leg from upper thigh to toes; proper left leg crossed over proper right; left foot is pointed, while right foot is relaxed. Contour line drawing with minimal shadingGallery Label
Rather than filling this sheet, Ault situated the isolated legs within ample blank space. Defined with a continuous and uniformly bold outline even where light hits them most strongly, these legs suggest the neatly crossed, perpetually immobile limbs of a mannequin. The fragmentary nature and clinical approach to the disembodied body parts move them into the realm of the surreal.
