DescriptionImage of vaulted ballroom with large heart on back wall behind bandstand.Gallery LabelFor more than 30 years, Lynne Cohen has photographed interior spaces designed for people but notably devoid of their physical presence. The formal rigor and consistency she uses to frame her architectural subjects operate in playful tension with the content. Here, an empty honeymoon hideaway party room, seen without people, does little to convey warmth or romance. The large heart, shot through with cupid’s arrow, nonetheless imparts poignancy to the empty space, representing a genuine attempt to celebrate joyous rituals amidst otherwise mundane middle-class décor.
