DescriptionDeep pink glass vase with acid-etched relief decoration in white glass of passion flowers; the rim and the foot decorated with bands of white glass.Gallery LabelCrisp white passion flowers and vines stand in sharp contrast to the deep pink background on this masterful example of technological innovation in glassmaking. The manufacturer, Thomas Webb and Sons, was renowned for its complex cameo glass wares. In this technique, multiple layers of glass were blown one inside the other. Designs were then sketched onto the surface and acid baths used to remove one or more layers to create relief decoration, reveal subtleties in coloration to emphasize three-dimensionality and produce juxtapositions in color.
