This well-worn ceremonial skirt in subdued shades of dyed raffia displays a simple yet sophisticated approach to color and design. Some of its assymetrical appliquéd decorative elements have been added to cover holes that either developed over time from wear or occurred as a result of pounding the raffia, a manufacturing technique to make the cloth supple.
