DescriptionCylindrical vessel supported on a slightly tapering, cylindrical foot made of reddish earthenware with an orange, green-speckled lustre glaze. The main body of the bowl is decorated with four, evenly spaced busts covered in the same glaze.Gallery LabelDadaist Marcel Duchamp urged his friend Beatrice Wood, "Never do the commonplace; rules are fatal to the progress of art." Taking this advice to heart, Wood created vessels characterized by the fusion of archaic forms and an elegant, sophisticated glaze known as lustreware. Wood elevated this simple bowl to dazzling heights by using an iridescent and transformative glaze.
