DescriptionThe work has a very wide, bulbous bottom and a short, narrow neck with a wide lip. The luster-glaze seems very metallic or chromelike from a distance, but lustrous green and violet highlights appear when viewed up close and under a light. Three narrow, longitudinal cordlike embellishments run up and down the belly of the piece at the four cardinal points.Gallery LabelOften called the "Mama of Dada" for her affiliation with the Dada art movement of the early 20th century, Beatrice Wood constructed seemingly unrefined forms that she altered by the use of in-glaze luster, which created a field of ephemeral, iridescent color and a shimmering surface.
Stephanie Hoffman Jacobson was a Kansas City collector of many forms of art; upon her death her family and friends established a fund at the Museum to support the acquisition of contemporary ceramics.
