In Birds at Home, Julie Blackmon depicts a group of children paused in a moment of controlled chaos. Though assembled in one scene, none of the children appears to interact. Rather, they seem immersed in their own singular imaginations. Blackmon creates her scenes using digital editing software. Working with family and friends as models, she makes numerous digital captures and meticulously stitches a selection together to compose her final image.
Given by the Hall Family Foundation to The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO, 2008.
