DescriptionImage of a woman seated in the front seat of a car, looking pensive, adjusting her right earring with her left hand.Gallery LabelThis close-up portrait of a young woman pulls the viewer into a confined, personal space. The woman’s expression remains mysterious and difficult to read as she adjusts her earring in the front seat of a car. Though the portrait may appear spontaneous, Ben Gest actually composed the image by stitching together many digital captures. This process allows Gest to create nuanced portraits than convey tension between intimacy and distance in psychologically-charged, everyday settings.
