Homer Page was endlessly fascinated with the rich visual energy of the street. An avid observer, Page often featured people in the act of looking. At times, they’re looking directly back at him. This photograph of two women with annoyed expressions reminds us that photography is not a passive or one-sided endeavor. Whether or not it is visible in their faces or body language, the act of being photographed transforms how we see these women.
