DescriptionImage of a window display with sale signs hanging from sections of fabric.Exhibition HistoryThe Photographs of Homer Page: The Guggenheim Year, 1949-1950. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO, February 14 - June 7, 2009, no. 19.
In this image of a fabric store window, sale signs visually compete with the products they advertise, beckoning customers with multiple promises of a good deal.
Homer Page found the signs and symbols of post-World War II consumption endlessly fascinating. In his street pictures of New York City, made in 1949 while supported by a Guggenheim fellowship, Page often focused on the display of goods and services that became part of the spectacle of the street advertising.
