Timothy H. O’Sullivan: The King Survey Photographs. The Art Institute of Chicago, October 22, 2011 - January 15, 2012, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO, April 7 - September 2, 2012, Brigham Young University Museum of Art, Provo, UT, January 23 - May 26, 2014, no. 58.
After the party disbanded for the season, O'Sullivan remained near Salt Lake City for a while. These photographs of the surrounding desert were taken near Camp Douglas, an army fort where the survey team stored their equipment after the 1868 season.
Some scholars have proposed that a group of King Survey photographs, including this one, were actually made by Andrew J. Russell.
