Anton Bruehl exemplified the modernist currents of his day. His bold and precise style is apparent in this work, one from a series of images made in Mexico in 1933. Recorded in direct sunlight, Bruehl’s choice of viewpoint and subject resulted in a dynamic and tactile image.
Bruehl was respected as both a commercial photographer and a creative artist. His advertising photographs were reproduced in leading magazines such as Vogue and Vanity Fair, while his artistic work was featured in many international exhibitions.
