DescriptionImage of an elderly couple; woman standing against green wall with hands behind back, man watching television.Exhibition HistoryRotation 25. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO, October 19, 2018- March 17, 2019, no cat.
Larry Sultan’s rediscovery of home movies and snapshots made by his parents during his childhood inspired his series Pictures from Home. He responded to these nostalgic records by creating his own ambiguous documents of his retired parents’ life. With their (often puzzled) cooperation, Sultan posed his parents to express emotional, if not literal, truths about their lives, as seen in images such as this one.
