DescriptionVery dark close-up image of woman's face.Exhibition HistoryRotation 25. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO, October 19, 2018- March 17, 2019, no cat.
This intimate portrait of the Broadway actress Helen Herendeen conveys emotional intensity despite its small scale. The photograph is slightly blurred, cropped to frame only the woman’s expressive face, and printed to emphasize her upturned eyes. It compels us to imagine what rivets Herendeen’s gaze beyond the frame.
