DescriptionGrid of 24 images depicting a man completing a high jump in rapid succession.Gallery LabelFollowing his success in 1878, Eadweard Muybridge continued to experiment with recording movement in rapid sequence. Capturing moments as brief as a 1/2000 second, Muybridge photographed a vast range of subjects, from men jumping to the movements of dogs, horses, and elephants. Working from a studio at the University of Pennsylvania from 1884 to 1886, he made more than 100,000 photographs of humans and animals. In 1887, these views were published in a collection of 781 images titled Animal Locomotion.
