In this photograph, Lange invites us to consider an anonymous woman, accentuating the fine details of her hair, jacket, and paper package illuminated by the sun.
Though best known for her searing, socially conscious images of the Great Depression (1929–1939), such as Migrant Mother, and Japanese internment (1942–1946), Dorothea Lange also photographed in America’s city streets throughout her career.
