DescriptionHand-blown, clear glass, fotted jug with handle. The body is decorated with all-over pattern of waterlily blossoms and leaves in multitoned green, white, and yellow enamels.Gallery LabelThe water lilies on this jug illustrate two key British design principles of the 1800s: naturalistic ornament and a union of function and decoration. Indicating the water vessels’ purpose, the designer adorned them with aquatic plants. Manufacturers of utilitarian articles, especially those intended for domestic use, made an effort to improve the aesthetic quality of English product designs.
