Gallery LabelWoodcut proved an effective means for Sandzén to translate his bold and textural style of painting into graphic media. The subject of Poplars at Moonrise recalls the serial paintings of Claude Monet that explored the changing effects of light on form at different times throughout the day. Sandzén successfully used the light tone of the paper to suggest fleeting, but decisive highlights.
