"In the future, everyone will be world famous for 15 minutes." - Andy Warhol

This is Mao Tse-tung- political philosopher, Communist leader of the Chinese Revolution and Chairman of the People's Republic of China from 1949 until his death in 1976. Warhol's garishly colored prints, based on Mao's official portrait, commemorate President Richard Nixon's 1972 state visit to China. Mass media coverage of this historic "opening of China" made Mao an instant celebrity, thus worthy of Warhol's attention and art.
