DescriptionNo robe (Karaori type) with seaweed and shell (mirugai) design.Gallery LabelAs time passes, the environment blooms and withers away. The Buddhist concept of impermanence reminds us that life is ever-changing. Japanese Nō theater incorporated this idea in both plays on stage and the costumes actors wore. Here, shells and seaweed come together to evoke a tranquil beach scene. Chrysanthemum flowers scattered across the purple robe symbolize longevity, or long life.
