Exhibition HistoryThirty Years of Print Purchases for the Permanent Collection, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO, November 19 - December 31, 1989, no. 13.
The subject shows the escape of Aeneas from Troy after its capture by the Greeks, with Aeneas carrying his father Anchises and accompanied by his son Ascanius. Anchises later died in Sicily, while Aeneas became the founder of Rome. In this print the bold rhythms of the figures are typical of the early Baroque style in France.
