Gallery LabelThis still life is not still at all! The central bottle, the two
delicate goblets flanking it, a pipe in the lower left, and the wooden table
are all enlivened by dynamic diagonals, overlapping shapes, shifting textures,
and sweeping arcs. Together, they convey a sense of life in motion. Georges
Braque combined the crisp lines of etching with fuzzier shaded areas of
drypoint to suggest and then deny the physicality of forms.
