Gallery LabelLarge Totem Head is a bulbous, concave form divided into two halves by a vertical plane. Frontal and iconic, it expresses a kind of elegant grandeur. Large Totem Head evokes Moore's interest in the art of ancient and non-European cultures. The sculpture shares with Egyptian and African art its emphasis on stasis, reductive form and symmetry.
