DescriptionVertical, rectangular form which leans a bit to one side; mottled green/orange/ pink glaze surface. thin, dark blue base, and glaze of upper portion has dripped down to form an irregular, scalloped edge. in top. form has cut into (indented) in the center, so that the side has two surface planes, one about one-half inch inward from the other. the top goes vertically down in an inward curve to about the middle of the sde. small ledge. indentation goes diagonally down (from upper right to lower left) to bottomGallery LabelRon Nagle finds inspiration for his ceramics in surfboards, 1950s automobile fins, the stucco buildings of his native San Francisco, Japanese ceramics and linoleum. Since 1963, he has shaped his vessels in the form of a cup. Here, although not readily apparent, the parts of a cup-a base, a handle and an opening into a hollow container-can be found within this intimately scaled vessel. The handle becomes a relief element on the side of Nagle's square cup, which has only a small opening marking the access to the vessel's interior.
