DescriptionImage of a woman looking through a store window at a painting that depicts a nude female from behind. The woman is dressed in a dark coat and hat, her eyes are wide and her lips pursed as she gazes at the image.Gallery Label“It was a little provocative in those days to put such a picture in the window,” Robert Doisneau said about a risqué painting hanging in a friend’s antique shop. “I saw that a lot of people glanced at the painting in the window, and their reactions were quite amusing. I thought it would make a good photo-series … I arranged with Romi [Doisneau’s friend] to sit in the shop, holding the Rolleiflex [camera] on my knee, to see if I could get some good pictures. Because there was a reflection in the window, passers-by couldn’t see what I was doing.”
