Gallery Label
The dark background of this print throws the figures into relief and echoes the work of goldsmiths or silversmiths, whose decorative designs often had a background of black enamel. In this example, a winged female figure at the top is suckled by two infants. Below are flute playing satyrs with deer, and at the bottom is a winged male figure holding torches flanked by cherubs with fish tails who are blowing horns.
