DescriptionPale blue silk satin ground, finely embroidered in polychrome chain stitch with floral sparys and butterflies, each decorative unit being outlined with couched white silk twist. Multiple borders all around of black silk sating ground, embroidered with repeat floral motifs in satin stitch of three shades of blue and white. The borders are trimmed with beige silk ribbon embroidered in blue satin stitch with repeated butterfly motifs. The cut of the coat, the style of decoration and preference for the motifs used indicate a date in the last quarter of the 19th century.
