DescriptionSelf-portrait of the artist seated at a richly decorated table with a glass in one hand and a cigarette in the other.Gallery LabelIvan LeLorraine Albright’s self portrait demonstrates his highly personal style. It marries his interest in aging to his love of intricate detail. The deep wrinkles disfiguring Albright’s face suggest physical deterioration beyond his 55 years. Notice the elaborate patterns in the lace tablecloth and their complex reflections in the surface of the crystal box and silver beverage cooler. These intricate linear forms, along with those in the chairback and Albright’s coat, echo the furrows on the artist’s face. His environment becomes an extension of himself.
