DescriptionLarge basket with handle woven into base. The entire basket is woven of intricately intertwined bamboo, including whole and split stalks.Gallery LabelThis bamboo basket is woven from whole and split stalks of bamboo. The irregularity of the form reflects a taste for native folk crafts, known as mingei, the art of the people. Baskets in this style were extremely popular among European and American collectors of Japanese crafts in the early 20th century.
