DescriptionIncised and molded decoration of crested waves underglaze; overglaze enamel decoration with chrysanthemums and plover. phoenix and jewels in medallion.Gallery LabelKakiemon is a special type of delicately enameled porcelain produced at Arita, Japan’s premier porcelain production center. Kakiemon derives its name from the beautiful red persimmon (kaki) enamel color perfected by the Arita potter Sakaida Kizaemon (emon), whose descendants have perpetuated his artistic lineage into the present. The finish was enhanced by a special glaze that rendered the background a milky white color.
