Levon West wandered the American Northwest and went into Canada hunting for game and subjects for his art. Canadian Riders exemplifies the simplicity that characterizes his etchings. He rendered his subjects without belaboring the details. His spare use of line evokes the severity of the bleak Canadian winters. West’s etching shows how a highly skilled printmaker can create an engaging image using an economy of means.
