These tables and mirror frames creatively combine an English interpretation of the Rococo style and Asian-inspired designs into whimsical fantasies of pagodas, flowers, fruits and rock formations. The two stacked C-scrolls that compose the tables' bases and the foliage that coils up the mirrors' sides reflect the curvilinear forms favored by the Rococo. The tables' stepped stretchers bridge the legs to form the rocky platform of hanging stalactites that supports the tiled-roof pagoda trimmed with bells. Another pagoda can be found on the top of the mirror along with a domed-roof pavilion at the bottom of the mirror. The two intricately carved pairs are rare and exuberant examples of 18th-century white-painted furniture decorated with polychrome paints and gilding.
