Gallery LabelWhat do you see when you look at this costume design for choreographer Hanya Holm’s production of the Golden Fleece? What do you think might have inspired the artist, Kurt Seligmann? The garment might bring to mind ribbons, bandages, bones, shells, birds, horses, knights or something else entirely. Seligmann, a member of the Surrealist group of artists, created images that invite free association. This made him a perfect choice to design costumes for the Golden Fleece, which Holm envisioned as an “alchemistic fantasy.”
