This small painting presents a familiar subject in Persian art, figures enjoying courtly pursuits in an idealized landscape.  Here, a young woman offers wine to a handsome archer.  They are framed by curvaceous trees, whose sinuous branches echo the contours of their bodies. Birds along with blooming flowers enhance the effect of spring. The landscape is an integral part of the composition, as its high horizon edged with flowering plants and trees gives way to a lapus blue sky. The delicate brushwork, brilliant colors and harmonious setting create a perfect, otherworldly environment for this elegant pair.
