Provenance

With Joseph Fach (1887-1975), Frankfurt am Main, Germany, by September 20, 1959;

Purchased from Fach by Milton McGreevy (1903-1980), Shawnee Mission, KS, September 20, 1959-1980 [1];

His bequest to The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO, 1981.

NOTES:

[1] Joseph Fach invoice, Nelson-Atkins Archives, MSS007 Milton McGreevy Papers, box 1, folder 2. The invoice lists thirteen drawings McGreevy purchased from Fach, but unlike the others, no price is listed for this Achenbach drawing. An index card attached to a copy of the invoice in the museum's files includes the crossed out notes "Gallery paid" and "To Dora McGreevy." The meaning of these notes, and why they are crossed out, is unclear, but Dora McGreevy (1878-1967) was Milton's mother, and her maiden name was Achenbach.
