DescriptionA rectangular hand-sewn flag with appliquéd symbols. In the top left section is an insert of the British Union Jack. The remaining field of black cloth has two appliquéd images of two men, each standing and holding a yellow circular object on opposite sides of a reddish central object shaped like a liquor bottle; the one on the left is pointing to a white oval object on the ground behind him while the right figure is pointing to a similar oval object in the sky behind him. The composition is framed by a border decorated with black and white triangles.Provenance

Acquired in Cape Coast, Ghana, by Nii Quarcoopome, Farmington Hills, MI, by 1999-2013 [1];

His gift to The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO, 2013.
