DescriptionThe vertically oriented black-and-white print Sunday Promenade depicts five finely dressed African American figures walking to and fro down a street at the middle of the composition. Closest to the viewer is a woman wearing a hat and polka-dotted dress with a prominent white collar. Her proper left arm is bent at the elbow and crosses over her waist. She carries a bag in her proper right hand and glances over her proper right shoulder. Above her and to the right are a pair of women in dresses, hats, and high heels. The woman on the left wears earrings. The woman on the right walks a large dog who has its nose to the ground. Behind them and walking away from the viewer of the print and into the scene, is a female (left) and male (right) couple. The woman wears a dress with ruffles at the collar, shoulders, and knee-length hem. Her partner wears a suit and a checkered hat. The strolling people are flanked by buildings at the left and right. A portion of a fence appears near the upper quarter of the composition at the right side. Near the top of the scene, at the center, is a building that looks as though it may be a church.ProvenanceAuldlyn Higgins Williams and E.T. Williams, Jr., Sag Harbor, NY, 1996–2018;
