MarkingsMaker’s Mark and British Registry Design Mark, located underneath the handle connector on the electroplate mount covering the upper part of the neck in a single line. Maker Mark: H; &; H; individually stamped within three circles. Registry Mark: Diamond shape, topped with a circle. The diamond bears “Rd” in the center. Each of the diamond’s corners have a semi-circular callout indicating day, month and year of production, and a parcel number via letters and numerals. The various letters and numbers reflect the following: the large "Rd" means "registered." The Roman numeral in the circle at the top of the mark (I) specifies a metal material. The numeral in the top inside section of the diamond represents the day of the month (possibly 9). The letter at on the right corner signifies the year the piece was registered (E, indicating 1881). The numeral on the left corner denotes the parcel number (5).The letter in the bottom segment represents the month the design was registered (E, indicating May). This mark designates the design for the jug was registered on May 9, 1881.

DescriptionA claret jug of clear glass with a star-cut foot. Electroplated silver mounts cover the upper part of the neck with a hinged lid and spout, and fittings for an ebony handle in the form of a vertical rod.Provenance
